If you are familiar with the tools we’re using — D&D Beyond, Roll20, and Discord — you may have all of this done already.
- I use StartPlaying to handle booking for open sessions. If you do not already have a StartPlaying account, sign up using this link to get a $10 credit.
- Get a free Roll20, Discord, and D&D Beyond account (if you don’t already).
- (Optional, but you want to, trust me): Install Beyond20 Browser extension (for integrating D&D Beyond & Roll 20): https://beyond20.here-for-more.info/install
- Have a microphone and headphones. I cannot stress enough how much of a difference headphones make for everyone else. If you do not have a headset for your PC, but do for your phone, you may install Discord on your phone or a tablet and use your phone’s headphones.
- I will provide you with links to the specific server and campaigns when you register for the game. You will get this from StartPlaying if you are signing up through there.
Tips and Tricks:
On Discord:
Change your server nickname to your character’s name on Discord by going into profiles, then server profiles.
On Roll20:
In Roll20, click the cog wheel in the upper right hand corner. From there, you can tweak a few things, like setting your name to your character’s name.
You can make the player pictures in the map area WAY smaller (change avatar size to “name only”)
And turn off voice and video for Roll20 (we’re using Discord for that). That’s also where the music volume is located.
